Attending your First Krav Maga Class

Updated: Feb 7

Congratulations for making the decision to register for Krav Maga classes! It takes courage to try something new. Maybe you feel confident coming into your first class, or maybe you are nervous. Either way, know that you are coming into a safe place! Our community is warm and welcoming for all people, backgrounds and skill levels. Being nervous just means that you're doing something outside of your comfort zone, and that's a great thing! We encourage all students to come into class with a positive attitude and an open mind to try. This will enable the learning process within yourself and make the experience really enjoyable.

If you have any special considerations that our instructors should know, such as injuries, other physical limitations or previous traumas, please tell them at the beginning of class privately, so they can be sensitive to your situation and adjust technique as necessary. Please work within your physical and mental limits - you know yourself better than we do, so stretch yourself only as much as is healthy for you. If you did overdo it, injure yourself or get triggered, please speak to an instructor privately right away so they can help you. Do NOT leave the facility.

There are washrooms in our main foyer if you'd like to change before or after class. (Please note that we do not have showers). All outdoor shoes must be left on the mats outside the gymnasium, as our space is for clean indoor shoes only. There are lockers just inside our gymnasium that you are welcome to use to keep jackets, bags, or other belongings during the time you are in class - please use these rather than leaving bags on the floor where they can be a tripping hazard. Lockers are not meant to be used for longer than your class time and locks will be removed if they are left on over night.

Although our space is safe and we typically have the door locked during class, please leave valuables at home as Tip of Spear is not responsible for them. It is also strongly encouraged to remove all hats, watches, dangly earrings, rings, necklaces and any other jewellery or precious things which could either get damaged or cause you or another student harm during class.

To prepare:

  1. Make sure you have signed your online waiver prior to your class, if you haven't already.

  2. Make sure you have the gear you need for your beginner first class.

  3. Come to Tip of Spear 15 minutes before your class to get your gear on. We start class right on time!

  4. Try your best. Work within your limits. Keep an open mind. And most of all, have fun!
